will you take a photo of me in front of this huge orange vessel?

I don't think I've ever considered myself a boat person. Or at least not a vessel-spotter kind of person, in the light of which it's somewhat interesting that I found myself, indeed, vessel-spotting on Saturday afternoon, and even asked Johan to take a picture of me in front of said vessel (FYI, I very rarely ask to be photographed. I only ask when I truly feel a memento is due).

Anyway, as you can see, I wasn't alone. A lot of folks had shown up to watch and board what is currently the talk of Copenhagen town: Pacific Orca, which, to use a jargon I'm not entirely comfortable with, is a so-called heavy-lift jack-up vessel built for carrying and installing wind turbines.

I don't know if it's because I know she'll have a hand in delivering green energy to the world or if it's simply her size and the gorgeous view of all that deep orange against a bright blue sky; but I honestly found myself deeply affected by the entire scenery. All those people out there, admiring this humongous wonder of the world, and knowing that soon she'll be out on stormy oceans installing wind turbines, while the rest of us will be at home watching tv.

I mean, that's something, right? Which is why I've now introduced the label "WOW" to this blog. To deal with big orange turbine-installing vessels like this.

brand new sneaks - you dig?

I bought these online some two weeks ago when I was high on pain killers and strapped to the couch with a nasty root canal infection. In all honesty I had kind of forgot about them, so it felt like a genuine surprise to find them waiting for me in the mailbox when I got home from work.

(Now I just have to wait 6 months or so before I can start wearing them. I always do that. Buy shoes out of season, I mean. It's just that it's so much cheaper that way.)

Wanna be twinsies? Yes? You can find them here:O)

young David

I've been painting this past week, and for the first time in ages, I've thoroughly enjoyed it. Which is interesting considering that I've engaged myself in figurative painting, which I don't think I've done since I was in my mid teens.

It's David Hockney - or rather, based on a photo of David Hockney - and it's been so nice to just more or less copy it as best I could, and not overthink it any direction whatsoever. (Except for his face. Painting that hasn't been so pleasurable, and I'm kind of tempted to leave it a blank slate.)

I wish I could remember which tumblr or blog I stole this from, because it certainly deserves credit. The cake too. I bet you can taste the dedication in that frosting,

heavy on the cheese

There was a show on tv the other night, about aging and staying young, and a woman mentioned something about how she'd heard of a rapport that concluded you could avoid certain wrinkles and skin imperfections by not eating cheese.

As if we're gonna believe that.
Slap it on I say.
(Although the whole apple pie with cheese thing? That I don't get).

Whoever made this, I wanna hug em.

R&R

Come Friday morning, I'm so exited about the weekend I can barely contain myself. Throw in some beautiful fall weather (not too cold, a drizzle here, some sun there) and the prospect of cooking up a bunch of comforting and homely dishes, I'm as close to ecstatic as can be. I'm thinking grilled cheese sandwiches, a rum toddy, and something that needs to cook forever on the stove:O)

(By the way, those pan-fried zucchini flowers are Johan's making. He's much better than me at taking on ambitious cooking projects.)
